Students from the Department of Communication Studies produced the winning entries in all four categories in this year's EIU Video Challenge.
The EIU Video Challenge is a campus-wide contest that invites Eastern students to submit videos they have produced. The videos are judged in four categories, with a first place winner in each category plus a grand prize winner for Best of Show.
Ryan Snodgrass (senior from Machesney Park) captured first place in the Entertainment category for his video "Focus. One: Sound of a Generation", which was a music video for Ryan's church band that was filmed on location in downtown Rockford. Ryan's video was also awarded the grand prize for Best of Show.
Tyson Kroening (junior from Mattoon) and Matt McKay (junior from Litchfield) won first place in the Documentary category for their video "It's All Hearsay", which focused on a local band and the challenges facing the local music scene in Charleston.
Gabe Przygoda (senior from Charleston) took first place in the Promotional category for "Hit Mix Shark Promo", which is a 15 second promotional spot for Hit Mix radio. The spot features a puppet dressed as a shark delivering the news.
Keith Sutterfield (sophomore from Effingham) joined Bobson Mercier and Wes Smith to take first place in the Educational / Demonstration category for their video "Renewable Energy Center", which focused on the new EIU Renewable Energy Center.
The producers of all four winning videos won cash prizes in the contest, which was sponsored by CATS (The Center for Academic Technology Support).
