The bachelor's degree requires 120 semester hours of coursework. Of these, 55 semester hours are related to coursework in the major. The remaining 62 semester hours include requirements to meet EIU's general education curriculum and requirements to meet the State Board of Education's general education requirements for teacher certification. Twenty-five clock hours of observation of clinical work, and approximately 60 to 100 clock hours of supervised clinical practicum are also required. Major coursework at the undergraduate level includes 6 semester of study in biological/physical sciences and math, 12 semester hours in behavioral and social sciences, 17 hours in human communication processes including anatomy and physiology, physical and psychophysical processes, and linguistic and psycholinguistic processes, as well as 23 hours of study in the assessment and treatment of speech-language-hearing disorders.
