Why should I purchase a computer through this program?
The Department of Communication Disorders at Eastern Illinois University is committed to integrating the use of technology with clinical and academic course work. The use of technology enhances instruction and facilitates a variety of clinically applicable projects. Laptops are used to enrich learning experiences through exposure to new technologies within and outside the classroom, to increase interaction with your instructors and classmates and allow better access to educational resources. Using a laptop, will help you build vital skills needed in today's job market. With our wireless environment and your laptop, you can access the internet, email, classmates, library databases and other resources from numerous sites across the campus.

The University has entered into a partnership with a computer vendor to customize systems for our students.  The customization goes beyond the specific hardware, including a custom bundle of software and specialized support services. EIU is able to offer a software suite that reflects what students will need to accomplish their work here. This standardization helps bring equity to the students and helps faculty to more effectively utilize the technology in the classroom.

• Each laptop is delivered with an EIU-ready image. This image insures that the laptop hardware is configured properly and ready for use. Furthermore it allows support staff to quickly restore student computers to their original state should they suffer a fatal software error.
• Academically, the major advantage of the Laptop Program is that participating students will have access to the same technology as their instructors. Instructors will utilize this technology as they produce new course material.

Your purchase provides on-campus support and service from technicians trained specifically in laptop issues. If your warranty-covered laptop repair cannot be done quickly, you may be issued a loaner laptop. Our on-campus support is convenient and cost-effective. The Laptop Program consists of a fully configured laptop computer, software, and technical support to meet educational needs.

How do I order my computer?
A link will be available in April from this website which will take you to the website where you can order your computer.  Computers will be delivered to your home address.
