Jean M. Smitley , M.S. Associate Professor in the department since 1993. She currently teaches courses in Phonetics and Phonological Development (CDS 2100), Clinical Techniques (CDS 3900), Introduction to Communication Disorders & Sciences (CDS 2000), and special topics in supervision (CDS 5400). She has served as the faculty advisor for Eastern's student speech organization, NSSLHA in the past. Ms. Smitley published a book, A Sound Start - Phonemic Awareness Lessons for Reading Success with two EIU colleagues. She is an active member of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA). In the past she worked as a speech language pathologist in both private practice and school systems.
