Gail J. Richard, Ph.D

Professor, joined the department in 1981. Chair of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences since 2000. She received her doctorate from Southern Illinois University: Carbondale. Current courses taught in the department include Developmental Syndrome Disorders (CDS 5200), Advanced Language Disorders (CDS 5250), Phonological Assessment and Remediation (CDS 3100), and special topics in Autism, Language Processing, and Ethics (CDS 5400), as well as supervising diagnostic evaluations in the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Dr. Richard is an ASHA fellow and serves on the Legislative Council of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a Fellow and Past President of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA). She has several clinical publications including The Source for Processing Disorders, The Source for Autism, The Source for Treatment Methodologies in Autism, The Source for Syndromes (with D. Hoge), Source for Syndromes 2, The Source for ADD/ADHD (with J. Russell), The Language Processing Test - Revised and The Language Processing Kit (with M.A. Hanner), and Differential Assessment of Autism and other Developmental Disorders with Lynn Calvert. She is an active consultant and speaker in the areas of childhood language disorders. Dr. Richard also serves as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for Eastern Illinois University and is a member of the NCAA Division I Management Council.
