Former Faculty Dr. Augustine continues to serve as the Dean of the Graduate School, Research and International Programs. In May he and Provost Lord visited international alumni and EIU students studying abroad in England, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Greece. He was pleased to contact 1981 CDS Alum Athen Xofillis who continues to practice in Athens, Greece. He also caught up with CDS major Elizabeth Gergits who was studying abroad in The Netherlands. Son Matt recently completed his doctoral preliminary examinations and is in the home stretch of his Ph.D. program at Washington University in St. Louis. Son Mark completed is BA degree in Communications at Illinois State in December and is working at Radio BOB in Bloomington. Son David graduated from high school on June 1 and is headed to Illinois State in the fall to study Culinary Arts. Kathy continues to teach math at the Middle School. Dr. A. enjoys catching up with former students and invites emails with updates! Betty Dodson and husband John celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004. They traveled a great deal in 2003 and continue to enjoy time with their children and grandchildren. Mary Anne Hanner continues as Dean of the College of Sciences finishing her 7th year in Old Main and 26th year at EIU. During 2007, she is chairing ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation, resulting in many trips to DC to direct the work of the Council. She also serves on the ISHA Convention Program Committee. She and Dale still live in Oakland and just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Their children, Emily and David, are both married and living in Crest Hill, IL and Gurnee, IL, respectively. Mary Anne and Dale have three “grandgirls”: Ainsley (5.5 yrs), Anna (almost 2), and Elinor (almost 2). Entertaining the grandgirls is a favorite pastime. Richard Jacques is living in Flagstaff, AZ and working as a part time clinical supervisor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northern Arizona University. He is thoroughly enjoying being retired but is happy to have contact with students again engaging in his first love, teaching. On the social side, Dr. Jacques has a special someone. Her name is Carol. So all in all, life is good. Dr. Jacques would love to hear from his former students. You can email him at: rjaxone@yahoo.com Mary Beth Kluge continues to travel with occasional trips to California and South Carolina. In the fall of 2006, Mary Beth received a grant from the Lily Endowment and traveled overseas with a group of pastors as part of an immersion program to Scotland and France. Jill Nilsen finished her sixth year as Vice President for External Relations and her thirty-first year at EIU! This position requires much travel and allows her to visit alumni and share the great things happening at EIU. She would love to see our CDS alums at the various alumni events which we host throughout the year. Chris began his senior year at the University of Illinois and Jeff began his sophomore year at the U of I and plans to major in history. Nancy Weiler and husband Bill live in The Villages, Florida. They are proud grandparents to their son Kirk’s son born January of 2005. They seem to be thoroughly enjoying their retirement and are busy with many activities. Nancy regularly golfs, organizes workshops in beading and jewelry making, and continues to knit and spin. Bill keeps busy by golfing and fishing. Daughter Michelle spent much time in London with her job and Kirk and Sha are busy with the new baby.
