Welcome to the College of Sciences at Eastern Illinois University. Are you interested in robotics, aeronautics, geospatial planning, compassionate healing, psychosocial issues of childhood or the elderly, or engineering machinery that makes life easier for us all? Whether you dream of developing a cure for disease, converting algae into biodiesel, devising a successful political campaign, or teaching children with autism to communicate, the College of Sciences is where you need to begin.
The College provides diverse learning opportunities, including study of biological sciences, chemistry, physics, pre-engineering, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, geology, geography, mathematics, nursing and pre-health professions, and communication disorders and sciences. Many undergraduate and graduate degree programs are available.
Nearly all EIU students take courses from the College of Sciences catalog, and hundreds major in one of our disciplines. Students in our courses learn via a variety of modalities. Traditional courses are augmented by web-based technologies. Lecture outlines, course notes, readings, videos, discussion boards, and chat rooms are accessible to enhance learning experiences in many courses. Some online courses are available, and more will be added in the near future.
Our classrooms, laboratories, internships and field sites, study abroad programs, and clinics are among some of the most exciting places to expand your educational horizons. Students are encouraged to extend learning beyond the classroom, integrating their knowledge with real-world experiences so they are ready to compete for jobs in a global market.
Research is a hallmark of the College of Sciences. Faculty engage students in research at both undergraduate and graduate levels, encouraging their ideas and mentoring their projects. Each year, faculty and students present their findings at local, state, national, and international venues.
Sciencefest, the annual College of Sciences research showcase, features research presentations by undergraduate and graduate students. From EIU, to the state capitol, to professional conferences across the nation and beyond, our faculty and students impact the world with their knowledge and innovations.
The College of Sciences faculty, administrators, and staff are here to support you in your educational journey. If you are interested in an exciting career in the social, behavioral, or natural sciences, please contact the College of Sciences, or one of our department offices, for more information.
