Position Description
Eastern Illinois University is seeking a dynamic academic leader as the Director for a RN to BSN Nursing Degree Program, a program offering a Baccalaureate degree to students who are licensed Registered Nurses. The Director has overall leadership responsibility for the coordination, supervision and administration of the program. The RN to BSN Director reports to the Dean of the College of Sciences, an academic unit comprised of 10 science and social science departments including Biological Sciences which manages programs of study in Pre-Nursing.
The EIU RN to BSN Nursing Degree Program enrolled its first nursing students in 2007 and received initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education in April, 2009. The first graduates of the program received their degrees in May 2009. The program is designed to meet the educational needs of the working professionals and provides course schedules and formats to accommodate the working professionals.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Director include:
- Supervise, coordinate, and administer all aspects of the Nursing Program and activities associated with the Program;
- Provide a clear vision for the program and compelling leadership to realize the vision;
- Ensure program quality that will meet accreditation standards;
- Maintain and advance strong collaborative relationships with local and regional off-campus health care providers and government organizations in support of the program;
- Provide leadership in developing and maintaining quality faculty, staff, and students through recruitment, retention, and development, with special attention to achieving Affirmative Action goals;
- Execute responsible budget planning and management;
- Participate actively in private and corporate development activities and extramural fund-raising efforts on behalf of the program.
Qualifications
Required:
- An earned doctorate in nursing or related field and a master’s degree in nursing with teaching, research and scholarly achievement commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the university. Candidates with significant progress towards an earned doctorate in nursing or related field and a master’s degree in nursing may be considered.
- Experience with clinical nursing and baccalaureate nursing education; experience with distance learning modalities is preferred.
- Experience with preparation and leadership for academic accreditation of nursing programs.
- Record of success in forging collaborative relationships with health care providers and government organizations.
- Evidence of success in securing external funding.
- Eligible for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
