| Student Advisory Board Meeting Minutes 11/28/2005 Call to order 5:03:19PM I. Attendance A. All present II. Approval of Minutes for 10/24/05 A. Approved II. Committee Reports A. Service Committee 1. Speaking in Foundation class on Nov 2nd went well i. Positive feed back from professor 2. Program “Getting to know Katrina” i. Planned for end of February in the evening - Between 7-10 or as early as 6:00 PM ii. Talked to Brenda Major about Hurricane victims - Panel discussion iii. Project Larazas speakers will present iv. John Stimac will be opening talk about Gobal situation v. Flyers will be copied in vi. Will be in the union maybe East end of ballroom vii. ADVERTISMENT IS KEY 3. Scholarship i. Will be given out based on personal circumstances ii. Advertise with Outstanding Professor iii. Need endowment of $5,000 for $500 scholarship - COS will pay for first couple of years iv. Goal for fundraising next semester is $2,500 - Justin in charge of preparing hand out - From Department Gift fund - From RSO's - Personal donation from students and faculty v. Requirements - GPA of 2.5 - Sophomore or higher year in school - One letter of Recommendation - Essay question - Interview vi. Will be handed out at SciFest 1. Current application sent out via e-mail 2. Meeting on December 5th at 5PM at B and B coffee in i. Goal to have new rough draft, come prepared C. Website 1. All our pictures are up i. Budget information handed out 1. No reserves have been set aside i. Idea of having a central budget - Due to fluctuation in government laws aka Government asks for money we can give it without lots of meetings 2. 95 % goes to Personal services and 5.0 % includes operation i. Personal services $11,875,142 ii. Operating funds $624,934 - COS $122,527 - Rest given in base transfers iii. Equipment reserve $181,116 - Roll over funded monitored by government 3. Discussed renovations and new stuff 4. Discussed lobbying i. Get parents, family, friends to write local government officials ii. Student Action Team through Student Senate V. Department Reports A. PLS 1. Thursday 1/1/05 Deletion of constitution requirement for non- major students will be discussed at CAA i. Will still be a general education course ii. Dept. given out 1st undergraduate research awards - Hope to have 2 more rounds—FA, SU - Money comes from Dept. Operations Budget 3. Making 4. Phi-Sigma book sale went well—will use $$ for scholarships 7. Joseph Armstrong (ISU) will talk about beetle pollination in rain forests on 12/1 at 4:30 PM 8.
