Administrative Changes in the College of Sciences

On June 1, 2009, Dr. Steve Daniels was appointed as the new chair of the Department of Physics. Dr. Leonard Storm has returned to his faculty position and will be retiring from EIU this December.

As of July 1, 2009, Dr. Gary Bulla will be serving as the interim chair and Dr. Steve Mullin as the interim associate chair of Biological Sciences. Dr. Andrew Methven is returning to his faculty position and will continue to serve as the coordinator for the MS in Natural Sciences program.

Dr. Craig Eckert has been appointed as the new chair of the Sociology/Anthropology Department. He will replace Dr. Gary Foster who will be retiring from EIU this August.

Dr. Mark McGuire will serve as the interim chair of the Chemistry Department during the Fall semester and Dr. Dan Sheeran will begin his appointment as chair of Chemistry on January 1, 2010 after completing a research sabbatical during the Fall semester. Dr. Doug Klarup is returning to his faculty position in the Chemistry Department.

Dr. Dianne Nelson Receives 2008 Women of Achievement Award

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, Dr. Dianne Nelson, Director of the new EIU Nursing Program received the 2009 Women of Achievement Award. Dr. Nelson was nominated by her co-workers for her commitment to the program and her collaborative approach to leadership. Dr. Nelson emphasized the connections between Women's Studies and nursing, tracing the history of nursing from its inception as "women's work" through efforts to increase respect for nurses, which have resulted in the current professionalization of nursing.
