Physics and Pre-Engineering

Eastern's Physics department offers:

  • An outstanding, caring, and accessible faculty composed of PhDs, with classes taught by faculty rather than by graduate students.
  • Small class size, resulting in a low student-to-teacher ratio, which makes instruction more personal. For example, introductory Physics classes for the major typically have fewer than 25 students.
  • The opportunity to work closely with faculty members on research projects that may be experimental, theoretical, or computational.
  • Opportunities to join various science-related clubs, including the Society of Physics Students, the Astronomy Club, and Sigma Pi Sigma, a national Physics honorary society for outstanding Physics Majors.
  • Multiple program options within the Department of Physics to meet a student's needs and interests, including Physics; Applied Physics; Astronomy; Computational Physics; Radiation Physics; Science with Teacher Certification: Physics Specialization; and B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Physics (both dual degree programs with UIUC.)
