College of Sciences - Technology Help Page For Students

Eastern Illinois University and the College of Sciences are committed to providing the resources and services necessary to keep our faculty/staff and students on the cutting edge of technology use.  Providing technology support is a team effort on campus and knowing what organization to call for a particular problem or question can be confusing. Below is an overview of some of the many technology related resources that are available to faculty/staff and full-time EIU students. When in doubt of who to call for a particular question contact your college's Instructional Support Specialists.

Phone Book : Look up someone in the EIU address book.

Help Desk: The ITS HelpDesk manages technical support, installation, and maintenance of personal computers on campus.

Student Help Desk : (217) 581-5171

Self Help : The ITS Self Service Help Desk web site for reporting problems with computers. This site only works on campus.Type your log on username as the Client ID. Leave the Password blank and Sign in.

SPIN : Student Panther Information Network an interactive, online environment for students that will provide calendar, message board, survey, virtual marketplace and other information modules tailored specifically for EIU students

PAWS (Panther Access to Web Services) is an on-line system which enables students to access a variety of information via the Internet like student accounts, course registrations, financial aid etc

Computer Accounts

  • Email:Every faculty/staff member and all full-time students have access to an EIU email account and web server space. Faculty may also apply for their own course accounts and/or sponsor group web accounts for student organizations. Accounts are automatically created for students when they become full-time students. For questions about userids/passwords or to find out more information about your EIU account(s) please call User Services at (217) 581-5171 or click on the link.

Computing Resources

  • Listing of all ATAC computer labs on campus
  • Open Computer Labs
    • Access to microcomputers is distributed throughout the campus in numerous computer laboratories. There are several different classifications of laboratories that are based on their intended use. See Classifications to find out more about these lab facilities.
  • Illinois Century Network
    • The Century 2000 Network enables students to connect their personal computers directly to Eastern's campus network and thus to the Internet using a high-speed Ethernet connection
  • On Campus Student Internet Connections
    • All on-campus residence halls, including Greek Court, are connected to Eastern’s high-speed Century 2000 network. This connection is not available to students living in private, off-campus housing.
  • Dial-In Connections
    • If you do not live in a residence hall that is connected to the Century 2000 Network via an ethernet connection you may want to connect to the Internet using a dialup connection.

Initiatives and Committees

  • Illinois Virtual Campus (IVC)
    • Many colleges and universities in Illinois are offering academic courses and even entire degree programs over the Internet. The IVC is your gateway to this exciting new world in higher education.
