The distinguished Sigma Xi speaker this year was Dr. Roger White, who spoke on Cities and Regions as Complex Self-Organizing Entities: From Dynamical theory to Planning and Policy Support Tools with Cellular Automata Based Urban Models. Dr. White gave a second talk at 1 pm Friday, March 28, titled Land Use and Environmental Policy: New Tools for a More Effective Approach. Dr. White is a Geographer at Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland and is interested in work which underlies a developing theory of cities and regions as self-organizing, complex adaptive systems.
