Publishing Scholars

The College of Sciences participated in the Annual EIU Publishing Scholars & Creative Works Recognition Reception on October 8, 2008. Faculty from the four academic colleges and Booth Library were invited to display publications and creative works which were published between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008. The scholarly work of many COS faculty were recognized at the 2008 reception.

The first Publishing Scholars Reception was held in the mid-1980s and was initiated by Dean Jon Laible who was dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). Dean Laible recognized that high quality research and scholarly work were occurring but no venue was available for displaying and discussing those works.

After the campus reorganization in 1994, the College of Sciences and the College of Arts and Humanities jointly sponsored the Publishing Scholars Reception through 2007. In 2008, the Publishing Scholars and Creative Works Recognition Reception was held for the first time as an event for the entire campus.
