GRADUATE STUDENT INVESTIGATOR AWARD

The Graduate Student Investigator Award program was developed by the Dean of the College of Sciences to support graduate research and to provide a forum for the presentation of superior graduate student research.

Appropriate student research may be qualitative or quantitative projects in which students gather and synthesize data and which can be written and presented in a poster format.  Students who have completed independent studies, research courses, theses or other scholarly projects are strongly encouraged to apply.

This award program provides up to 3 awards of $200 to graduate students who have completed or are nearing completion of their research projects.  Students must be enrolled at EIU during Spring Semester 2008 to receive the award.  The Graduate Student Investigator Awards will be presented at ScienceFest during the afternoon on March 28, 2008.  Award winners will display their research in a poster format during ScienceFest on this date, and posters must be in place by 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 27th in the University Ballroom.  AWARD RECIPIENTS MUST BE PRESENT AT SCIENCEFEST DURING THE AFTERNOON ON March 28, 2008 IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN AWARD.

Interested graduate students must complete the attached application form and submit a letter of support from their faculty research sponsor.  Evaluation of the applications will be based on the quality of the research and the clarity and organization of the application.

Completed award applications are due to department chairs on Wednesday, February 13, 2008.  The applications are due in the College of Sciences office by noon on Friday, February 15, 2008.  Award recipients will be notified by Friday, March 1 2008.

Recipients who have a tuition/fee balance will not receive the monetary award at Sciencefest, but instead the award will be applied directly toward the students’ outstanding balance.

Questions concerning the Graduate Student Investigator award or the application procedures should be directed to the College of Sciences, 2118 Old Main.
