If you are assigned to the Champaign Center for student teaching, you will be placed in a school district in Champaign, Ford, Piatt ,Vermillion or Douglas County. Three coordinators supervise student teachers in the Center. You will be interviewed by one of the coordinators for your pre-placement conference; then you will be assigned to a permanent coordinator once your placement is made.
We will do our best to follow your wishes; however, we ask you to respect our experience and allow us to make a placement that ensures your success in student teaching. We place with experienced cooperating teachers and try to cluster students together in schools so that you will have the support of your peers. In most cases, we will notify you of your placement within eight weeks from the time of our interview with you.
Prior to your pre placement conference, you are expected to fill in the Champaign Center Student Teacher Pre Placement Form. Print it and bring the form to your pre-placement conference.
Bring three copies of your updated autobiography and resume and one official transcript to the meeting. We also expect you to bring practicum evaluations to this meeting.
Once you receive your placement papers, you are expected to:
Notify your coordinator that you have received your placement via e-mail.
Contact your cooperating teacher by phone or e-mail and arrange to visit him/her. During your visit, make sure to get personal contact information for your cooperating teacher including an e-mail address and cell phone number. (See page 11 of the Student Teaching Handbook for the types of questions to ask at this preliminary meeting.)
Notify your coordinator once you have visited the school.
Prior to Student Teaching you must:
Pass all content area tests
Complete a TB test and send the results to student teaching. (Health Services will have a free clinic and will publicize the dates.)
Complete a Criminal Background Check
Contact information:
It is important that you stay in contact with your coordinator. E-mail him/her right after the pre placement conference and then make sure to do so if any of your contact information changes over the semester.
We look forward to working with you during student teaching!
