The College of Sciences at Eastern Illinois University invites applications for the position Assistant to the Dean for Student Academic Services, a twelve month position beginning August 1, 2008.
The College of Sciences includes eleven academic units and departments and confers about 460 baccalaureate and 100 master's degrees each year in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology/Geography, Physics, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Nursing.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant to the Dean for Student Academic Services reports to the Dean of the College of Sciences and has primary responsibility for all matters related to student academic programs and services. The Assistant to the Dean coordinates and supervises the certification for graduation process for undergraduate majors; monitors the curriculum requirements and changes; updates degree audits and catalog information; advises students, academic advisors, department chairs, and the dean on matters related to degree requirements and academic policies; processes and advises the Dean concerning academic waiver requests; maintains data related to degrees and majors; coordinates all activities related to the College of Sciences Curriculum Committee; processes grade appeals and student concerns; assists in student recruitment and orientation activities ; supervises staff and student employees; and represents the Dean at University and College events.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and relevant experiences in academic support services such as advisement and degree certification. Experience with BANNER and DARS is preferred. The position requires effective communication and interpersonal skills. Evidence of highly developed organizational skills, the ability to think critically to solve problems and to work independently are essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and be an effective member of the Dean's management team.
