Carol Specht Memorial Monetary Award

The Carol Specht Memorial Award is given to an undergraduate female student who is the single parent of at least one child living in her home. The guidelines of the award stipulate that the recipient must be majoring in a "helping discipline." The applicant's financial need, academic record, and participation in community service activities are also considered.

This fund was established by Constance Specht and Margo Christian in memory of their mother who founded the Coles County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and was active in the Coles County League of Women Voters. Carol Specht was murdered by an intruder in Mattoon some years ago.

Please contact the Office of Civil Rights and Diversity for more information at 217-581-5020.
Contributions to the award fund can be made to the EIU Foundation.
