Open Source taken over….

Posted by David Nguyen in Uncategorized at 7:01 pm | Permanent Link

Recently we wrote a paper on the future of the internet. I found this article somewhat interesting in how users are going to more open source software and going towards the “cloud” type computing. The article goes into talking about Google Native client rivaling activeX and Appcelerator’s Titanium rivaling Microsoft’s Silverlight. Also toward the end of the article it starts talking about how Photoshop might become a web based app rather then having to download it. The article just gives a user an idea of where people are wanting to go with their computing.

White House opposes FCC’s free Internet plan

Posted by Nick Matese in Uncategorized at 11:59 pm | Permanent Link

After just writing Issue #5, there was some effort to get the government to offer free wireless internet. But apparently that has been shot down! This article talks about some Spectrum that the FCC is auctioning that they said you must offer a certain level of free internet in the 2155MHz to 2180MHz band. But companies like T-mobile who invest billions of dollars is opposing this, and saying this would cause a service interruption in there spectrum which is very close in range. Only time will tell, but hopefully the government would offer some sort of free wireless internet, that would be great! If you are interested check out the article below!

Safer than ActiveX: a look at Google’s Native Client plugin

Posted by Nick Matese in Uncategorized at 11:52 pm | Permanent Link

Google, has created something called Native, it is much more secure than ActiveX. Active X is the cause of a lot of spyware spreading. When allowing active x scripts to run when visiting a website, your PC is vulnerable it can allow the installation of harmful applications. I would say this is the main way spyware infiltrates unsuspecting users. This article talks much about how activex is based on the Microsoft com system which is another reason why pc’s get harmed. With the native client by google, it takes most of the risk away. Because it comes preloaded with trusted and untrusted modules, this meaning it takes the decision away from the unsuspecting users. In the end with a more secure environment and less spyware, it could also help to squash spam for spreading. Because once some installs some versions of spyware on your PC it will allow the creators in some cases to utilize your internet connection and can spread spam from your IP. So once Native makes it way, I will definitely check it out, and I encourage you to do it as well.
