EIU LITERATURE CONFERENCE -- SHAKESPEARE
The annual EIU Literature Conference takes place on Nov. 12 and 13. This year's conference, "Re-encountering Shakespeare," features lectures, workshops and a university theater production of "The Tempest."

On Friday, Nov. 13, two lectures by distinguished and engaging visiting scholars are free and open to one and all in the Recital Hall, Doudna Fine Arts Center.

At 9 a.m., Alexandra Bennett of Northern Illinois University presents “Her Infinite Variety: The Women of Shakespeare’s World.” Bennett has brought her professional acting experience to classes, summer Shakespeare, workshops for school teachers and Elderhostel seminars. In each of these settings she has developed a following of grateful, enthusiastic and exhausted students.

At 10 a.m., Don-John Dugas of Kent State University presents “Popularizing, Purifying and Profiting from Shakespeare.” Dugas’s most recent book, "Marketing the Bard: Re-encountering Shakespeare and Print," was the subject of a lively hour-long interview on National Public Radio.

The conference is sponsored in part by a major grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.
