TARBLE EXHIBITION LOOKS AT LINCOLN
Newly acquired drawings of Abraham Lincoln by Illinois artist Charles Turzak are featured in this version of "Looking At Lincoln," on view through Aug. 11. The exhibition explores the life and times of Lincoln through art from the permanent collection.
Turzak’s drawings were made in preparation for his seminal 1933 work, "Abraham Lincoln -- A Biography in Woodcuts" and are paired with the woodcuts. Also exhibited are other original prints by Turzak, John Steuart Curry and N. C. Wyeth, and an oil painting by Paul T. Sargent. From the Illinois Folk Art Collection are 20th-century paintings, quilts, carved wood dioramas, dolls, a log tavern model and a whirligig, plus a c. 1840s quilt and a c. 1880s cane.
Copies of the book "An Abraham Lincoln Tribute: Featuring Woodcuts by Charles Turzak" and original Turzak woodcuts are available for purchase in the Tarble Gift Shop.

CAMPUS-WIDE ELECTRICAL OUTAGE -- JULY 27
Electrical power will be out throughout campus from 5 a.m. to noon (seven hours) Saturday, July 27, in order for work crews to provide permanent electrical power to the CENCERE facility being built near the Renewable Energy Center.
In addition to no electrical power for lights, receptacles, etc., electronic toilets will not work and heating/cooling temperatures may fluctuate.

CITY FIRE DEPT. HIGH RISE RESIDENCE HALL RESPONSE TRAINING
The Charleston Fire Department plans to conduct high rise residence hall response training on Eastern's campus in the coming weeks. Training exercises will take place at Carman Hall, and will involve the setting off of fire alarms and turning off HVAC. Fire trucks and emergency response equipment will be on campus. Additional departments may also be involved.
Training sessions are planned for:
Tuesday through Thursday, June 18–20 -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday, June 25-27 -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday, July 16-18 -- 6 to 10 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 6-8 -- 6 to 10 p.m.

CAMPUS ELEVATOR WORK
Beginning July 1, EIU will be performing upgrades and maintenance work on various elevators on campus. This work will require the elevators to be taken out of service for short durations of time, depending upon the work. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by mid-August. Facilities Planning and Management is currently working with the contractor to develop a schedule of this work and will issue Outage Notices to building coordinators listing the buildings and dates for planned work.

SUMMER EXHIBITS FOCUS ON TRAVEL, SCIENCE FICTION
The Marvin Foyer on the north end of Booth Library is home to four new exhibits this summer.
The north side of the foyer takes a look at “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” and “Celebrating the National Park Services.” The exhibit includes a large map of Route 66, which stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles, and examines the 97-year history of the National Park Service, with a look at national parks such as Yellowstone, Olympic and the Great Smoky Mountains.
The south side of the foyer hosts exhibits about “Jules Verne: Father of Science Fiction” and “Steampunk World.” Verne is a French novelist, poet and playwright best known for his adventure novels and for the genre of science fiction. Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery.
These Booth Library exhibits were curated by Booth Library support staff members Jeanne Goble, Joseph Hall-Ingram, Michele McDaniel and Sally van der Graaff.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR TARBLE AUGUST WORKSHOPS
Registration is open for Tarble Arts Center summer art workshops for adults (ages 15 and over). Each intensive workshop will cover what students need to know so they may continue to explore the medium on their own.
“Decorative Clay Tile Workshop,” taught by Karen Reed, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 5-19.
“Introduction to Oil Painting,” led by Natalie Boyer, is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 6-20.
“Introduction to Soft Pastels,” taught by Kit Morice, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7 and 14.

PANTHERMAIL UPGRADE -- JULY 25-26, 2013
Administrators will be upgrading the PantherMail system between 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, and 6 a.m. Friday, July 26. ALL PantherMail services, including Web email, imap, pop, smtp and tablet/mobile device access will experience rolling outages with long periods of inaccessibility.

Registration for the 2013 Health Fair -- Highway to Good Health -- is now open!
