Can students sign up for a TECnet workshop?

Students may attend a TECnet workshop if:

  • The student is an EIU student worker.
  • The student obtains a memo from his/her supervisor indicating that participation in the workshop is relevant to his/her work duties and responsibilities.
  • The memo is submitted via e-mail to the CATS office before the day of the workshop.

Are there prerequisites for TECnet training sessions?

For workshops that have more than one part or session, attendees are asked to take all parts in order and not skip sessions. This helps all attendees to build sequentially on applied skills.

For example: Adobe Photoshop has two parts: basic and advanced. Attendees who wish to take both are required to take basic first; this applies to all sessions in a series.

How do I sign up for a TECnet workshop?

All TECnet workshops and informational sessions require advanced registration. Registration is now available online here.

Registering for workshops will guarantee you a seat as long as you are not on a waiting list.

You will be e-mailed by CATS staff to remind you that you are registered for a workshop.

If you are on a waiting list for a workshop and a seat becomes available by the morning of the workshop, you will be contacted.

Does TECnet send workshop reminders for trainers?

You will be sent an e-mail by CATS to remind you that you will be teaching a workshop.

If you wish to know if anyone has signed up for a workshop, you can contact CATS after 12:30 p.m. of the business day before a workshop.

How are trainers notified of a canceled TECnet workshop?

If no one has signed up for a TECnet workshop or informational session by noon on the day before the scheduled workshop date, the workshop will be canceled.

If only one person is signed up for the session, the instructor may choose to do a one-on-one session with the person at that time or at a later date.

How should participants notify TECnet if they unable to attend a workshop?

As a professional courtesy, if an attendee is unable to attend a workshop, he/she should call the CATS office (217-581-8396) by noon the business day before the workshop. Registrants unable to attend a workshop and wishing to send someone from their department in their place must first contact the CATS office to confirm seat availability.

If all seats are taken and there is a waiting list, the next person on the list will be contacted. Registrants who must cancel CANNOT send someone else from their department in their place.

What is the wait-listing and walk-in policy?

If you are on a waiting list for a workshop and a seat becomes available by the morning of the workshop, you will be contacted. No walk-ins are permitted on wait-listed TECnet workshops.

If there is enough room in a session for which you have not previously signed up and you have the necessary skills to participate, it is up to the instructor's discretion to allow you to participate as a walk-in. Walk-ins are not otherwise guaranteed a seat.
