“You’re Hired”

The two words both you and your parents most want to hear.  You’re hired!  Meet us in the boardroom to discover the street-smart skills not taught in the classroom.  This six session learning experience, facilitated by local and regional experts, is specifically designed for graduating business majors.

The "You're Hired" program at EIU placed third in the 2007 Innovation in Business Education Award competition, given by the AACSB Mid-Continent East Deans Conference.


6-week session

Past sessions have included:

Week 1: First Things First
Join a winning team; learn your own work/behavioral style and how it relates to others.

Week 2: Figure It Out
Foster successful relationships with co-workers by practicing techniques to increase awareness and appreciation of differing work styles. Practice effective communication skills based on individual preferences as identified by the DISC survey.

Week 3: Keys to the Boardroom
Create your own infomercial; learn from the pros. A panel of human resource professionals and recruiters will share their personal tips on how to impress a recruiter.

Week 4: Talk the Talk
Confidently apply communication techniques to handle day-to-day workplace situations.

Week 5: Real Survival Skills for the Business World
Get the inside scoop from business professionals on how to succeed in your first job. Discover common sense solutions to everyday workplace problems and learn how to avoid business etiquette faux pas.

Week 6: Pulling It All Together
Demonstrate your confidence and professionalism through workplace scenario role play. Put the skills you've learned for professional success into practice and celebrate your personal growth.
