2013 BGS Outstanding Chapter Advisor

Wilson_BGSAt the AACSB International Conference and Annual Meeting, the EIU Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Advisor, Mr. Mike Wilson, was recognized as the Outstanding Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Advisor. He was nominated by Dr. Cheryl Noll, EIU School of Business Chair, and was selected by a committee representing all Beta Gamma Sigma chapters. The Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award recognizes the outstanding performance of Beta Gamma Sigma’s chapter advisors and administrators. Mike Wilson has served as the chapter advisor for the Eastern Illinois University collegiate chapter since its installation in 1993. Under his leadership, the chapter has since received a great deal of recognition and has been very active in and outside the School of Business. In just the second full year after its establishment, the Eastern Illinois University chapter was named as one of Beta Gamma Sigma’s Outstanding Chapters. That same year, Wilson led a successful fundraising campaign to purchase and install a BGS bronze key, enhancing the Society’s visibility on campus. To provide further recognition to the collegiate chapter’s top students, Wilson helped create a BGS Endowment Fund for annual scholarships at the university. Thanks in large part to Wilson’s efforts, the chapter was awarded the EIU Foundation Outstanding Philanthropic Organization Award in 2003.

The chapter’s performance, year after year, has earned recognition from Beta Gamma Sigma thanks to Wilson’s hard work. The chapter has consistently achieved Premier Chapter status and has been named as an Outstanding Chapter multiple times. Most recently, the Eastern Illinois University chapter earned recognition as the Society’s 2012 Bronze Chapter.

On campus, Wilson implemented several new initiatives to enhance ethical awareness. Wilson partnered with other faculty members to create an ethics essay contest. The BGS chapter also co-sponsored the Holley Ethics Speaker Series. To encourage BGS members to give back to the local community, Wilson helped start a student-led annual volunteer service activity that provides financial support to local not-for-profits.
