Oh, the places you can go . . .
The Netherlands, International Business, Maastricht
(Summer)
The School of Business encourages all students to include study abroad as part
of their university education. Each year, EIU offers a variety of short-term
study abroad programs that provide students an affordable opportunity to study
in another country. For several years, School of Business faculty have taught
a 4-week course, BUS 3200, The International Environment of Business, in Maastricht,
The Netherlands. Through this course, EIU business students learn the cultural,
political, social, and economic aspects of international business focusing on
the European Union.

Where will YOU go?
Why Business Majors Should Study Abroad
Never in the history of commerce has business been more global. In today's economy,
your competitor, even for a small business, could be right around the corner
or on the other side of the world. In what is truly a global economy, every
business major should take advantage of opportunities to study abroad. Study
abroad will broaden your horizons, stretch your mind, and sharpen your communication
skills. Nothing will make you more sensitive to diversity issues than becoming
a minority for a period of time. Even if you never leave the country again,
you will become a better, more empathetic manager. Every aspect of business
has international ramifications. Companies manage resources and personnel from
a variety of cultures and countries, market their products to consumers from
diverse backgrounds, raise funds internationally, increasingly report their
results using international conventions, and source their operations in the
most beneficial location. In a study abroad program, you will have the chance
to see how American companies and their competitors operate in a global economy.
The experience will have a profound impact on you, both personally and professionally.
Can I Afford to Study Abroad?
What you do in college is an investment in your future. Surveys indicate that
graduates who have studied abroad secure more job offers, better job offers,
and higher starting salaries in their fields. With findings like this, how can
you afford NOT to study abroad? Moreover . . .
You can use financial aid to study abroad, and to even pay for your airfare!
There are lots of scholarships for study abroad, from EIU and beyond.
In some cases, it costs less to go abroad than it would to stay on campus!
