General Education
Eastern Illinois University’s General Education curriculum provides the intellectual foundation for students’ academic, professional, and personal lives. The mission of the General Education program is to:
Enhance student literacy and oral communication
Encourage students to think critically and reflectively; and
Introduce students to knowledge central to responsible global citizenship.
Students must complete courses from the six segments of the General
Education curriculum, as shown below. The School of Business requires
students to complete the specific courses listed as part of their general education
curriculum. If no specific courses are listed below, students should select the
courses approved for that segment from the General Education courses.

Students who have not completed at least two years in a single foreign language in high school (with an average grade of C or better for the two years’ work) also must complete two university-level courses in a single foreign language.
