Eastern Illinois University Accountancy Program to Offer Becker CPA Review Course in May/June, 2008
The Eastern Illinois University Accountancy Program in the School of Business
and Becker Professional Review will be offering the Becker CPA Review on the
EIU campus for its second consecutive year beginning in May, 2008. The course
is available for students at Eastern as well as candidates from surrounding
communities and industries. The review sessions will run for 6 weeks beginning
Monday, May 12, 2007. The sessions will cover, in sequence, CPA examination
material related to business environment and concepts, financial accounting,
regulation, and auditing. Sessions will run on weekdays from 8 A.M. to noon.

The EIU Accountancy Program is pleased to join other major schools and universities
nationwide that have chosen to offer their students Becker CPA Review as a valued
benefit and to demonstrate its commitment to student success on professional
examinations. Becker students pass at twice the rate of all CPA Exam candidates
who did not take a Becker review course, based on averages of AICPA-published
pass rates.
Among the twelve state universities in Illinois, EIU ranked fifth in production
of candidates passing the CPA exam in 2007, according to recently released figures
for the Illinois Board of Examiners. The high number of EIU students passing
the CPA exam was driven by stellar performance on each section of the exam.
Of the nine Illinois state universities with at least 20 test takers, EIU had
the highest pass rate in the “Regulation” section (58.9%); the third
highest pass rate in the “Business and Environment Concepts” (53.1%);
the fourth highest pass rate in “Financial Accounting” (53.3%);
and the fifth highest pass rate in “Auditing” (46.8%). In all cases,
the EIU student pass rate exceeded the state university average.
The EIU Accountancy Program is one of only 168 schools and departments of Accountancy
in the world that is separately accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business International, the premiere accrediting organization in
business.
