The following list of building opening and closing times applies unless otherwise noted or unless activities are scheduled on the Building Occupancy Calendar in which case the building is to be open for the scheduled activities. The term "closed" indicates that the building is locked. University buildings not appearing on this list are not open to students and the public.
During weeks when summer hours are in effect, buildings will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 7:00 a.m. to noon on Friday unless otherwise scheduled on the Building Occupancy Calendar. However, Old Main closes at 5 p.m. on Fridays to provide public access to the Office of Admissions. Physical Sciences Building closes at 5 p.m. on Fridays due to its being available for Friday afternoon classes.
If classes are in session, academic buildings will open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., Monday through Friday.
If classes are not in session, academic buildings will open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Academic buildings will be closed on weekends and holidays.
Booth Library maintains and publishes its opening and closing schedule separately.

If classes are in session, the Doudna Fine Arts Center will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, and it will open at 10 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. on weekends. These hours will begin the Wednesday prior to the first day of Fall, Spring, and Summer classes.
If classes are not in session, the Doudna Fine Arts Center will open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Doudna Fine Arts Center will be closed on weekends when classes are not in session.
The Doudna Fine Arts Center will be closed during holiday breaks; regular hours resume the Sunday prior to the day classes resume following a holiday break.
When the building is open, all exterior entries (electronic and keyed) shall be unlocked.
Lumpkin Hall will follow the hours for Academic Buildings – General Guidelines with the sole exception that commencing spring semester 2018 Lumpkin Hall will close at 5 p.m. on Fridays when classes are in session.
The Tarble Arts Center will open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, will open at 12 p.m. and close at 4 p.m., Saturday, and will open at 1 p.m. and close at 4 p.m., Sunday. The Tarble Arts Center will be closed Mondays and holidays.

The Human Services Building will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Human Services Building will be closed on weekends and holidays.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and it will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. on Friday. The Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union will open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union will be closed on holidays.
The Cultural Center will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Cultural Center will be closed on weekends and holidays.
The Grado Building will open at 8 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Grado Building will be closed on weekends and holidays.
When classes are in session, the buildings open at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Friday they open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. On weekends, all exterior doors will be locked.
When Summer Hours are in effect, the buildings open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends all exterior doors will be locked.
When classes are not in session (i.e. during breaks) the buildings open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends all exterior doors will be locked.
During University holidays, all exterior doors will be locked.
* Student Rec Center patrons, adult fitness, CHS swim team, and other outside groups will use the SRC entrance on the north side of Lantz and check in at the SRC desk.
All uses of the buildings at other times must be scheduled in the University Scheduling System (Astra) to assure access.
The Student Services Building will open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Student Services Building will be closed on weekends and holidays.
Housing and Dining Services maintains and publishes the Residence Hall building schedules separately. Its schedule is available at https://www.eiu.edu/housing/index.php. Scheduled residence hall activities do not appear in the Building Occupancy Calendar.
