Boys State Band
The Boys State Band plays an important role in the program.
The Band practices daily under three professional music educators.
Participants bring their own instrument, but Eastern
Illinois University and Boys State furnish sousaphones, bass
drums, and field snares. The band plays a concert each evening
(one evening the Governor of the State of Illinois attends). The
band also plays at an impressive flag lowering ceremony each afternoon.
Band members may participate in athletics and or politics if they
choose. The Boys State Band enhances the spirit of the camp providing
a backdrop for the feelings of loyalty, unity, and patriotism that
develop throughout the week.
