Who Can Donate Blood?

People 17 years of age or older.
People who weigh 110 pounds or more.
People in good health.
It is recommended that people eat something substantial prior to donation as well as drink more fluids than usual.

What about piercings or tattoos?

You are unable to donate blood for six months after getting a body piercing or one year after getting a tattoo.

How often can people donate?

People can give blood every 56 days.

How long will it take to donate?

Giving blood takes about an hour, and a pint is usually taken.  Everyone who donates is given a mini-physical prior to donating.  Blood pressure, weight and iron amounts are checked.

What happens next?

People should avoid strenuous activity for about five hours after donation and should drink plenty of fluids.
