Steven Daniel and Norbert C. Furumo, (Chemistry) were presented with the Graduate Dean's Award of Excellence in Research for "The Glyoxylate Cycle in Fungal Plant Pathogens: Its Role in Virulence and the Disease Process."

 

Pat Enstrom received the Thesis Award of Excellence for "Patterns and Implications of Aberrant Singing Behaviors of Black-capped (Poecile atricapillus) and Carolina (Poecile carolinensis) Chickadees in Illinois."

 

Robert U. Fisher received the EIU COS Achievement and Contribution Award for Research/Creativity.

 

C. Drew  Foster was presented with the Department of Biological Sciences Warner Award.

 

Beth Flitz was presented with the COS Graduate Student Investigator Award. Beth's mentor was Steven Mullin

 

Marina Marjanovic, was been awarded the American Physiological Society's Comparative Section Young Investigator Award. The award is presented in recognition of meritorious research by young investigators who participate in the APS annual Experimental Biology meeting.

 

Stephen Mullin received the EIU COS Achievement and Contribution Award for Balance..

Dana Gerenda received the Phi Sigma Undergraduate Research Award for "Microsatellite primers tested for variation in  A. suspensa." Dana's faculty mentor was Ann Fritz.

 

Sarah Joyce received a Sigma Xi Research Grant for "Differential Susceptibility to Fascioloides Infection in Lymnnaeid Snails (Mullusca: Gastropoda) as a Possible Character in Phylogeny Reconstruction". Her research will was supervised by Dr. Mark Mort.

 

Rita Klein was presented with a Larry Williams Travel Award to present "The Effect of Aquatic Habitat Fragmentation on the Dispersal and Genetic Variability of Greenside (Etheostoma blennioides) and Fantail (Etheostoma flabellare) Darters" during the Annual Conference of the Midwest Fish and Wildlife Association in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rita's graduate faculty mentor is Dr. Robert Fischer.

 

Kipp Kruse and Paul Switzer received a United States Department of Agriculture Seed Grant fpr "Reproductive decisions in the Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica)" - $75,000—Co-PI

 

Michael Lehtinen received a Sigma Xi Research Grant for  "Reducing Kidney Stone Formation in Humans: Impact of Glycolate- and Glyoxylate- Consuming Gut Microbes". His research was supervised by Dr. Steven Daniel.

 

Susan A. Linn received a Graduate School Research/Creative Activity Grant for "Use of Soybean Fields by Eastern Meadowlarks in Illinois." Susan's graduate faculty mentor was Dr. Robert Fischer. Her research was supported by a partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
