Field Trip Report:  Lincoln Trail State Park
July 10, 2004

On Saturday, 4 club members had a great day of butterflying at Lincoln Trail State Park (it was hot but at least it was humid...).  In total we identified 17 butterfly species and 6 skippers (check out some photos below).  It was also a good day for dragonflies and other insects, so I included photos of other bugs below as well.  The most common butterfly on Saturday was the little wood satyr; highlights included an American painted lady, a beautiful gray hairstreak, and a little yellow.

Our complete species list was:  eastern tiger swallowtail, pipevine swallowtail, spicebush swallowtail, little yellow, clouded sulfur*, orange sulfur, cabbage white, gray hairstreak, eastern tailed blue, summer azure, snout butterfly*, red spotted purple, American painted lady, buckeye, great spangled fritillary, pearl crescent, little wood satyr,  silver spotted skipper, Horace's skipper, Peck's skipper, black dash, least skipper, and sachem.  We also saw a few unidentified anglewing spp.  Below I also include a photo below of an unidentified skipper.
(*were seen on the way to or from the park)
