Report: Lincoln Trail State Park July 10, 2004 On Saturday, 4 club members
had a great day of butterflying at Lincoln Trail State Park (it was hot but
at least it was humid...). In total we identified 17 butterfly species
and 6 skippers (check out some photos below). It was also a good day
for dragonflies and other insects, so I included photos of other bugs below
as well. The most common butterfly on Saturday was the little wood satyr;
highlights included an American painted lady, a beautiful gray hairstreak,
and a little yellow.
Our complete species list was: eastern tiger swallowtail, pipevine swallowtail, spicebush swallowtail, little yellow, clouded sulfur*, orange sulfur, cabbage white, gray hairstreak, eastern tailed blue, summer azure, snout butterfly*, red spotted purple, American painted lady, buckeye, great spangled fritillary, pearl crescent, little wood satyr, silver spotted skipper, Horace's skipper, Peck's skipper, black dash, least skipper, and sachem.
