  Field Trip Report:  Coneflower Hill Prairie
June 4, 2005


Eight people participated in our trip to Coneflower Hill Prairie.  The weather was hot and windy; the wind may have kept some butterflies from flying much.  Still, we saw identified 8 species of butterflies and skippers and saw many pretty prairie plants on this unique site.  Our complete species list was: spicebush swallowtail, cabbage white, orange sulphur, clouded sulphur, summer azure, great spangled fritillary, crossline skipper and dun skipper.  Other butterflies seen flying that day (but not during the field trip) included giant swallowtail, tiger swallowtail, monarch, and little wood satyr.  See below for a few photos.
