STUDENT TEACHING COORDINATORS
Coordinators are employed to work closely with public school administrators and public school teachers in the placement of and supervision of student teachers. Coordinators work closely with academic departments which have teacher preparation programs in order to provide student teachers with appropriate placements. Coordinators supervise teachers from all academic departments within the University.
The Chair of the Department of Student Teaching is responsible for hiring and the assignment and supervision of the coordinators' duties. Summer employment in Student Teaching is subject to the Summer Rotation Plan of the Department of Student Teaching, University Policy, and the UPI agreement.
Evaluation of the coordinator and recommendations for tenure, retention, or promotion shall be the function of the department in which the coordinator holds tenure or is pursuing tenure. That department shall consult with all other departments in which the coordinator has assigned duties for input into the evaluation and recommendation process as described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
All student teacher coordinators (Unit A and B) are eligible to serve on the Department Curriculum or other committees (except the Department Personnel Committee) as representatives of the Department of Student Teaching. Participation in the Department Personnel Committee is limited to individuals whose tenure (or tenure track) is in the Department of Student Teaching.
When a faculty person is teaching and doing supervision, salaries of the given coordinators shall be budgeted through both the Department of Student Teaching and the academic department, as agreed upon in advance, in approximate proportion to the yearly teaching load in each administrative unit. Salaries of coordinators, money for commodities and equipment, and funds for travel for supervisory duties shall be budgeted through the Department of Student Teaching. Request for travel and reimbursements shall be approved by the Chair of the Department of Student Teaching.
