Eastern Illinois University is located in Charleston , IL which is a small town located about 45 minutes south of Champaign . Eastern Illinois has a student population of 12,000 with everything within walking distance. Our sports compete at the Division I level, except for football (Division I-AA).

Our athletic training staff includes five staff members, four graduate assistants, and an accredited undergraduate program. Our staff is “young,” with the head athletic trainer currently in his seventh year and our assistants in their fifth, third, and two in their first years. We have 22 sports which utilize two athletic training rooms. Both facilities are equipped with rehabilitation equipment, treatment areas, and taping stations. Our graduate students are assigned to their own teams and are supervised by one of the staff athletic trainers. GA responsibilities include practice and game coverage, travel, and athletic training student supervision.

Most of our GAs pursue a degree in sports administration or cardiac rehabilitation. The graduate program offers a thesis and a non-thesis option, with the non-thesis option requiring a master's paper.
