Art Education Studio

Art Teacher Education Lab  (1650 ASF)

Seating for 28 students at seven 4’x8’ worktables. Equipped with instructor’s station/media cabinet (CPU & DVD/VHS player) connected to ceiling mounted digital projector; projection screen (8’x8’) mounted over whiteboard (10’x4’). Dual lighting systems: fluorescent for full illumination and incandescent lights on dimmer switches when using projection systems. North and South walls have upper and lower cabinets with countertops. South countertop has two sinks at each end of countertop. Six 5-drawer flat files. Electric kiln connected to local exhaust system to vent fumes created during firing process. Moveable equipment includes drying rack (1), ceramic ware truck (1), book carts (2), and utility carts (2).

 

Art History Classrooms & Support Spaces

Lecture Classrooms (2 each 720 ASF)

Seating for 40 students. Equipped with instructor’s station/media connected to dual ceiling mounted digital projectors. Cabinet includes the following equipment: 24” iMac, 1-Mac Mini, document camera, and DVD/VHS player. Software Installed includes iLife Suite, iWork Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google SketchUp. Dual lighting systems: fluorescent for full illumination and incandescent lights on dimmer switches when using projection systems. Whiteboard (16’x5’) mounted on wall near instructor’s station.

Seminar Classroom (221 ASF)

Seating for 10 students at conference table. Projection screen (7’x7’) mounted on West wall. Portable digital projector available for use in room. Whiteboard (10’x4’) mounted on North wall.

Media Center (450 ASF)

East wall has built-in counter; Power PC G4 with 20” monitor & large format (11”x17”) Epson scanner and 24” iMac set-up for video to DVD digital transfer are set on counter. Software Installed includes iLife Suite ‘08, iWork Suite ‘08, Microsoft Office 2004, Adobe Creative Suite 3, and Google SketchUp. B&W laser printer, Nikon Coolscan IV slide scanner. Slide collection stored in four slide file cabinets. Room furnished with moveable worktables, office chairs and lockable metal storage cabinet for videotapes and other supplies.

Student Study Area, DFAC 1340 (208 ASF)

Countertop (no base cabinets) on East, West and South walls. Equipped with 5 - 24” iMacs and 7 office chairs. Software Installed includes iLife Suite ‘08, iWork Suite ‘08, Microsoft Office 2004, Adobe Creative Suite 3, and Google SketchUp.

 

Ceramics Studio

NOTE: HVAC system provides supply air, but no return (recycled) air is drawn from the Ceramics Studio and support spaces to be re-cycled. When ventilation system is in operation the air is exhausted to roof vent.

Beginning Ceramics Studio (1200 ASF)

Equipped with 16 electric potter’s wheels and stools, four worktables (4’x’8’), 18 shop stools, and wedging table with bat rack. South wall has open three-tiered lockers (each approximately 12”Wx18”Dx24”H) and double basin utility and small basin sinks in SW corner area. East wall has a whiteboard (12’x4’). North wall has built-in open shelving.  Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

Advanced Ceramics Studio (1200 ASF)

Equipped with 16 electric potter’s wheels and stools, three worktables, 10 shop stools, glaze table, compressed air extruder, two slab rollers, and small wedging table. North wall has open double-tiered lockers (each approximately 12”Wx18”Dx36”H) and double basin utility and small basin sinks in NW corner area. South wall has a whiteboard (14’x4’) and access doors to kiln room and kiln yard. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes. West wall has built-in open shelving and spray booth (vented to outside) for glazing.

Glaze Room (500 ASF)

Equipped with three glaze material tables (with bins), work table, 6 shop stools, ball mill, three large gram scales, three small gram scales, lockable storage cabinet and three steel shelving units for glaze chemical storage. Double basin utility sink on South wall.

Mold Making Room (400 ASF)

Has open-shelf base cabinets and countertop on East, North, and West walls. Upper open-shelf cabinets and dual basin utility sink on North wall. Equipped with two worktables, 4 shop stools and plaster storage bin cart.

Clay Mixing Room (800 ASF)

Equipped with clay mixer, self-contained dust collection system that attaches to clay mixer, two pug mills, worktable and large mobile floor scale. West wall has two tiered pallet rack for dry clay storage. East wall area has slip casting table and slip blunger.  Single basin utility sink on East wall.

Pot Storage Damp Room (160 ASF)

Open wire shelving entire length of North, East and South walls.

Kiln Room (1000 ASF)

Equipped with exhaust system to vent two large hand-built brick gas kilns and one commercially fabricated gas kiln (exhaust ventilation system has capacity for a second commercially fabricated gas kiln), and four electric kilns. East wall has 15’ of steel storage shelving. Abrasive cut-off machine and grinder against North wall.  Room is equipped with 10 ft. over-head utility door on West wall.

Kiln Yard (1000 ASF)

Fenced outdoor space with three stacks for outdoor kilns; natural gas line installed to each stack plus an additional line on West end of yard for Raku kiln installation.

 

Drawing & Painting Studios

Drawing Studios (2 each 1972 ASF)

Each drawing studio equipped with 25 easels, 18 5-drawer flat files stacked 3 high against North wall, 24”x36” countertop spray booth connected to local exhaust system vented to roof. South walls covered with homasote boards. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes. Track-lighting (w/dimmer switches) illuminates South walls and center of rooms. Each drawing studio has whiteboard, projection screen and access to mobile digital projection system (digital projector and CPU on A/Vcart with cabling to connect to laptop computer).

Painting Studio (1680 ASF)

Equipped with 20 easels, 20 four-drawer mobile storage units, 20 shop stools and still-life set-up platforms. Studio has ¾” plywood walls throughout. Cabinets above a countertop with two sinks on East Wall. Double tiered painting storage units on East wall (13’) and West wall (14’). Spray booth (4’Wx3’Dx7’H) vented to outside on West wall. Whiteboard (4’x10’) on North wall. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes. Track-lighting (w/dimmer switches) illuminates center of room. A mobile digital projection system (digital projector and CPU on A/Vcart with cabling to connect to laptop computer) available for use in room.

Advanced Painting Studio (1200 ASF)

Semi-private studio space for painting students. Each student work area has easel, stool, and 2-drawer mobile storage cart. Other equipment in room includes safety cabinet for solvent storage, mobile computer workstation, and four 5-drawer flat files (stacked 2 high). Double basin utility sink on West wall. All walls are finished with ¾” CD plywood. Room has north facing skylights and fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

Painting Tool Shop (300 ASF)

Equipped with worktable, 3 shop stools, table saw, power miter saw, shop vac, lockable storage cabinet (4’Wx2’Dx6’H), and vertical storage rack. Wall mounted storage cabinet for various hand tools. All walls are finished with ¾” CD plywood. Whiteboard (4’x6’) on South wall.

 

3D Foundations Studio

Foundations Studio (1900 ASF)

Equipped with 11 workbenches (36”x72”x31”H) 20 shop stools, 5 modular workbenches (one-door/one-door) with electronic workbench riser, mobile tool storage cabinet, drill press, 10 scroll saws, 5 Heavy Duty Professional Foredom Flex Shafts – rotary hand tool, shop vac, 3 steel storage cabinets (36”Wx18”Dx72”H), 2 mobile storage cabinets (48”Wx18”Dx72”H). Wall surface throughout room is ¾” plywood. Whiteboard (4’x12’) on South wall. Utility sink and basin sink on South wall. Mobile digital projection system (digital projector on A/V cart with cabling to connect to laptop computer) available for use in room. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes. Track lighting on the West, East, and North walls.

2D Foundations Studio

2D Foundations Studio (1300 ASF)

Equipped with 13 workbenches (36”x72”x31”H), 24 shop stools, light table, steel worktable (4’x8’x28”H), mat cutter, rotary paper cutter, and 15 five-drawer flat files (stacked 3 high) against West wall. Room has countertop with 3 sinks on East Wall. Whiteboard (4’x10’) on North wall. Wall surface throughout studio is homasote. Mobile digital projection system (digital projector on A/V cart with cabling to connect to laptop computer) available for use in room. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

 

Digital Art and Foundations Computer Lab

Digital/Foundations Computer Lab (2800 ASF)

Room has 24 iMac workstations, 4 scanner stations, and networked black & white laser and color laser printers. Instructor’s station/media cabinet (iMAC CPU & DVD/VCR player) connected to ceiling mounted digital projector. Retractable projection screen (8’x8’) mounted above whiteboard (10’x4’) on North wall. Dual lighting systems: fluorescent for full illumination and incandescent lights on dimmer switches when using projection systems. West wall has upper and lower cabinets. Homasote boards cover East, North and South walls.

Graphic Design Computer Labs (2 each 2400 ASF)

Each equipped with 24 G-5 Macintosh with 20”flat screen monitor workstations, 3 scanner stations, and networked black & white laser and color laser printers. Instructor’s station/media cabinet (G-5 CPU & DVD/VCR player) connected to ceiling mounted digital projector. Retractable projection screen (8’x8’) mounted above whiteboard (10’x4’). Graphic Design Education (Presentation Equipment) Lab (750 ASF)

Equipped with two work tables (4’x8’), four 5-drawer flat files (stacked two high), nine drafting tables, 6 shop stools, 3 desk chairs, one steel storage cabinet (3’Wx2’Dx6’H), paper cutters, heavy-duty staplers, various bindery equipment, and wide format roll laminator.

Digital Photo Lab (750 ASF)

Has light table area and seamless reflective lighting station (backdrops & lighting equipment). Equipped with professional photographic lights and storage cabinets (3’Wx2’Dx6’H) to store lighting. Camera equipment (camera & tripods) available for checkout to graphic design majors.

Graphic Design Advanced Design Computer Lab (750 ASF)

Equipped with 12 G-5 Macintosh with 23”flat screen monitor workstations. Instructor’s station/media cabinet (G-5 CPU & DVD/VCR player) connected to ceiling mounted digital projector. Retractable projection screen (8’x8’) mounted above whiteboard (10’x4’) on North wall. Dual lighting systems: fluorescent for full illumination and incandescent lights on dimmer switches when using projection systems. East wall has upper and lower cabinets. Graphic Design Recording Studio (200 ASF)

Equipped with digital recording equipment (sound board, speakers, microphones & stands, headphones), audio software and sound isolation booth.

 

Jewelry/Metalsmithing Studio

Metals Lab (800 ASF)

Equipped with 16 jeweler benches (each with swing arm lamp), two worktables, and movable digital projection system (digital projector on A/V cart with cabling to connect to laptop computer). West wall has base cabinets and countertop. North wall has 8’ base cabinets, countertop with two sinks next to soldering bench area (3 work stations with torch connections for compressed air and gases) with slot hood local exhaust ventilation. East wall has whiteboard (4’x10’). South wall is a glass wall separating Metals Lab and Heavy Machine Room. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

Metals Heavy Machine Room (500 ASF)

Equipped with buffer unit, large shear, brake, roll, drill press, sand blaster, flex shaft tool area, Proxxon Micro Lathe (Professional Duty), grinder, belt sander, power and manual rolling mills, wire draw bench, hydraulic press, two small shears and large anvil, worktable. Room has base cabinets and countertop with two sinks on West wall. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

Raising/Forming Room (200 ASF)

Equipped with 30 forming stakes, two worktables and stake storage cabinet.

Annealing Room (100 ASF)

Room has 4’ base cabinet with countertop on West wall. Just opposite on East wall is 5’ annealing table (one work station with slot hood ventilation and compressed natural gas line) and sink to right of annealing station.

Casting Room (150 ASF)

Equipped with motorized and manual centrifugal casting machines, countertop burn out kiln, and rubber vulcanizing tools. Canopy hood located over casting machine and burnout kiln area.

Upper Level Student Studio (200 ASF)

Private workspace for upper level students equipped with five jeweler’s benches set against West wall. East wall has 6’ soldering bench area (2 work stations with torch connections for compressed air and gases with slot hood exhaust ventilation) and remainder of wall has base cabinets, countertop and sink.

Chemical/Electrical Room (200 ASF)

East wall has electric stove (for powder coating & patinas) in NE corner and remainder of wall is base cabinets & countertop. Enameling kiln set on countertop. Stove and kiln vented by canopy hood. West wall has fume hood vented to outside. Other equipment in room includes spray etcher, safety cabinet, aluminum anodizing equipment and powder coating equipment.

 

Printmaking Studio

Printmaking Studio (3600 ASF)

Room divided into three areas: Lithography area has three litho presses, 8 work tables, 3 mobile drying racks, 2 hydraulic platform lifts, 8 shop stools; Intaglio area has 4 etching presses, 2 inking tables, 2 worktables, mobile drying rack, 3 hotplates (located on countertops), 8 shop stools; Student Work Area has 13 worktables and 20 chairs. Base cabinets and countertop length of North and South walls. Two sections of base cabinets and countertop (1-9’ & 1-6’) on East Wall. Island base cabinet and countertop in room for hotplate near intaglio inking tables. Homasote covers East, North and South walls. Track lighting over sections of East wall. Fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes.

Chemical Storage Room (100 ASF)

Equipped with two flammable material storage cabinets, two acid storage cabinets and worktable.

Graining Room (250 ASF)

Equipped with two graining sinks; one on North wall and one on South wall. Remainder of North and South walls have base cabinets (for stone and levigator storage) and countertops.

Grounds Room (250 ASF)

Base cabinets on North wall for two 24”x36” hotplates; above hotplates are slotted exhaust hoods vented directly to roof.

Acid Room (250 ASF)

Three fume hoods line North wall vented to the roof. Eyewash and safety shower in NE corner area. South wall has full length base cabinets with two large sinks and moveable stainless steel drain board.

Paper Storage Room (300 ASF)

Equipped with 24 5-drawer flat files (stacked 3 high), 4’x8’ worktable, mat cutter, paper cutter, moveable digital projection system (digital projector on A/V cart with cabling to connect to laptop computer). Whiteboard (4’x6’) on West wall.

 

Sculpture Studio

Sculpture Studio is a single large space with three distinct work areas:

Woodworking Studio (1176 ASF)

Base cabinets and countertop on East, North, and West walls for scroll saws, power miter saw, mortising drill, and radial arm saw. Against East wall are three sanding stations, panel saw, and drill press. Central floor area has table saw, planer, and two band saws. All dust producing equipment is connected to a dust collection system that exhausts to collection barrels in sculpture yard.

Work Area (900 ASF)

Four  workbenches (5’x5’) and 16 shop stools. Vertical and horizontal storage racks on East wall. West wall has open-shelf base cabinets & countertop, open-shelf storage unit, and double basin utility sink.

Hot Metal Studio, DFAC 1760 (1300 ASF)

Area has three 3’x6’ downdraft welding tables; each welding table has two workstations with torch connections for compressed air and gases. A 5’x5’ welding table with snorkel exhaust system for use with electric welding, plasma cutter, and MIG welder. Other equipment in area includes two metal cutting band saws, grinder, spot welder, drill press, disc sander/grinder, sand blast cabinet and movable welding cart with portable air cleaner. Indoor foundry with canopy hoods over (a) furnace location & sandpit (recessed into floor) and (b) burnout kiln area. Venting for mold pre-heating kiln is also installed.

Tool Storage Room (150 ASF)

Equipped with two storage cabinets, two bin storage shelf units, four portable tool caddies, and movable clamp storage caddy. Miscellaneous portable power and hand tools.

Finishing Room (200ASF)

Equipped with 8’Wx6’Dx6’H spray booth.

Molding/Investment Room (150 ASF)

Equipped with wax melters, two movable steel tables, drill press and openwire shelving for molds.  South wall has 7' of base cabinets and countertop with slot hood exhaust unit above countertop area.  Slot hood exhaust units on East and North walls over sand tables.

Sculpture Yard, DFAC 1780 (1764 ASF)

Fenced outdoor space providing outdoor storage for steel and stone stocks.
