How Eastern Benefits
- Student Recruitment: The Alumni Association partners with the Admissions Office to help recruit the brightest students to EIU.
- Special Events: The Alumni Association co-sponsors a variety of events that bring students and alumni together to celebrate their lifelong bond with EIU, including Homecoming, reunions, Panther Service Day and First Night.
- Student-focused Service: The Alumni Association supports mentoring and leadership opportunities; aids in funding various colleges’ educational programming; and provides assistance to student organizations.
- Scholarships: The Alumni Association supports the funding of various scholarships that are awarded annually to students, including the Legacy Scholarship and Lord Scholarship.
- Support of Eastern Colleges: The Alumni Association supports alumni-focused programming within the colleges, including special events, organizational reunions and career development.
- Campus Renovations: The Alumni Association helps to fund campus renovations and beautification projects such as the Alumni Quad and Centennial Clock Tower.

What is the role of the Alumni Association?
The EIU Alumni Association is an institutional support and advancement partner in the University community. It works with on- and off-campus constituents to help meet the goals and aspirations of the University and fortifies the bonds between the institution and its alumni.
Why does EIU have a dues-based alumni association?
While all graduates are alumni, alumni that are active members of the Alumni Association are demonstrating their loyalty to the University. Alumni Association members want to help strengthen the credibility of the University and the value of their degrees. Membership dues allow the Alumni Association to serve alumni following graduation and throughout their lifetimes, connect alumni to their alma mater and serve students and the University overall.
