The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation

Our Philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. The Foundation supports research grants and educational programs for Diabetes . It also funds leadership programs, education programs and scholarships for Alpha Gamma Delta. Beta Iota is proud to be recognized as a Jewel Chapter because we raise over $2000 annually for the Foundation. The chapter raised this amount by having a 24-hour teeter-totter-athon and an auction at Parent's Weekend.

Alpha Gamma Delta members express concern for others through various philanthropic projects. Helping orgainzations and people in need is an integral part of Alpha Gamma Delta. Members participate in a pen pal program with fourth graders from the community grade school. We exchange letters each week, and at the end of the semester we go to the school and meet the kids. The chapter members help with the 5th and 6th grade boys and girls basketball program at Jefferson School. The chapter anually raises at least $500 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital by having a spaghetti dinner.

Members also participate in other fraternity and sorority philanthropies along with other community service groups and activities such as American Red Cross, Special Olympics,Charleston Food Pantry, Empower Walk, food baskets at Thanksgiving, adopt a family at Christmas, and area nursing homes.

The First Annual "Run for Glory" was held on March 24, 2007. This 5K run was held in memory of Glorivette Alegria, a member of Alpha Gamma Delta who died in March 2006. Below is a video of the run.
