Major The requirements for the major in African American Studies are consistent with the view of the program as an area of interdisciplinary study. The major is designed to allow students gain a comprehensive knowledge of African peoples throughout the world. The major consists of 45 credit hours. AFR 1000G: Intro to African American Studies, 3 credit hours One of the following courses: ENG 2705: African-American Literature, 3 credit hoursor ENG 4750: Studies in African-American Literature, 3 credit hours One of the following courses: GEG 3050: The Geography and Culture of Africa, 3 credit hoursor HIS 3250: African History, 3 credit hours or PLS 3353: Politics of Sub-Saharan Africa, 3 credit hours Three hours of elective chosen from the following: AFR 3970: Study Abroad, 1 to 15 credit hoursANT 3611: Peoples and Cultures of Africa, 3 credit hours JOU 3951: Minorities and the Media, 3 credit hours PLS 3543: Civil Liberties in America, 3 credit hours PLS 3723: Public Opinion and Political Participation, 3 credit hours PSY 4700: Prejudice and Discrimination, 3 credit hours THA 3755: African-American Theatre, 3 credit hours Footnotes:
