A student may either earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in African American Studies or select African American Studies as a double major and still graduate within the normal 120-hour requirement. A minor also is available in African American Studies.

AFR 1000G: Intro to African American Studies, 3 credit hours
AFR 2000G: The African American Experience, 3 credit hours
AFR 3000: Special Topics: African American Studies, 3 credit hours
AFR 3100: African Aesthetics and Cosmology, 3 credit hours
AFR 3200: African-American Identity, 3 credit hours
AFR 3300: African Cinema, 3 credit hours
AFR 4000: Seminar on the African-American Leadership, 3 credit hours
AFR 4100: From Negritude to Afrocentricity, 3 credit hours
AFR 4275*: Internships (1-12 hours), 3 credit hours
AFR 4400*: Independent Study (1-12 hours)
HIS 3750: African-American History: A Survey, 3 credit hours
SOC 2840: Racial and Cultural Minorities, 3 credit hours

One of the following courses:

ENG 2705: African-American Literature, 3 credit hours

ENG 4750: Studies in African-American Literature, 3 credit hours

PLS 3543: Civil Liberties in America, 3 credit hours
PLS 3723: Public Opinion and Political Participation, 3 credit hours
PSY 4700: Prejudice and Discrimination, 3 credit hours
THA 3755: African-American Theatre, 3 credit hours

Total Requirements: 45 credits
