What are the career options in African American Studies?
Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American female astronaut, graduated
with a degree in African American Studies. You can do anything you desire
with a degree in African American Studies. Your degree is comparable with
a degree in history, sociology, philosophy, geography, anthropology,
English and several other fields of study with an added multicultural
component-which, in today's workforce, is a definite asset.
A degree in African American Studies will provide you with a
clearer and more concise understanding of cultures you are bound to
encounter in the workforce and in daily and public life.
Some of our alumni from African American Studies at Eastern
have gone on to become chiropractors, professors, university
administrators, public school educators, counselors, social workers,
civil servants and some currently are graduate students at prestigious
universities across the country. Eastern Illinois University conducts
an annual Job Fair, where employers visit the campus in search of graduating
students.
