Description: Italy…”such stuff as dreams are made on.” What does YOUR dream feel like? Come live it with us… and experience 2,000+ years of theatre history and culture as we meander up the Italian peninsula. (You need not be a dramaphile to love this trip!) Beginning in the ancient outposts of Greek culture in the South (Sicily), we will travel to and linger in the “eternal cities” of Pompeii and Rome, and conclude our voyage in the great Renaissance cities of the North-Parma, Vicenza, and Venice. In the process, we will experience together the evolution of the art form that touches us all. The trip will consist of site visitations to the theatres that witnessed these great developments, to museums such as the Vatican housing the treasures of our craft, and – if we are fortunate- to a live performance or two. The class work primarily will involve reading plays intimately connected to these sites and discussion of how artists throughout history shaped entertainment as we know it today.
