How do I know what classes to take?
Required classes for each program can be found in the EIU Catalog (click here). Required courses for graduate programs can be found (click here).

What is an Academic Advisor?
An Academic Advisor is a faculty or staff member who assists students in selecting their classes for each semester using the College Catalog as a guide.

Who is my Academic Advisor?
Every student enrolled in a degree or certificate program is assigned a permanent academic advisor. A student can find out who their assigned advisor is by calling the department in which they are majoring. Advisors for students in the BGS program can be reached at 217/581-5618.

How do I know what the courses are about?
Course descriptions can be found in the online catalog and in the Eastern Illinois University catalog. Course descriptions can also be found in the School of Continuing Education Course Schedule.

How do I schedule classes for next semester?
You can schedule classes via the PAWS system. Registration for most classes begins in the week that is designated in the academic schedule. You will be able to access the PAWS system to register on the day that corresponds to the last digit in your social security number.

What is PAWS?

Paws is an on-line system which enables students to access a variety of information via the Internet.  Through PAWS students can securely:

  • Review status at EIU
  • Register for classes
  • View grades
  • Transcript Evaluations
  • Review the status of a degree audit
  • Obtain a WebCT initial password
  • Obtain an E-mail initial password
  • Review the financial aid status

PAWS is available during the following hours:

  • Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM
  • Saturday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Sunday - NOT AVAILABLE

How do I get a PIN number for PAWS?
New students can find their temporary pin printed on the registration permit that they were mailed with their admission information. If you are unable to locate the registration permit, come into the Registration Office with a photo I.D. to get your new PIN. If you cannot come into the Registration Office with a photo I.D. to get your PIN, you may request one by completing and signing the form (pdf)(html), and then mailing or faxing the form with a copy of your driver's license or state I.D. card to Registration at (217) 581-5972.
