Gateway Program
What is the Gateway Program?
Our Gateway alternative admissions program is designed to provide access to under-represented, disadvantaged students. Gateway candidates have experienced obstacles contributing to an inability to meet our published admissions requirements. If you meet one of the following criteria, we encourage you to apply to the Gateway program.
- First generation to attend college.
- Reside and attend school in an economically depressed area.
- Live in a low-income household.
- Member of an under-represented ethnic group.
Who is eligible for admission to the Gateway program?

- Have a minimum high school grade point average of at least a C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale).

How do I apply for admission through this program?
On the application for admission, there is a check box for students to indicate they wish to be considered for Gateway. The application should be mailed to the Office of Admissions along with the $30 application fee, official high school transcripts, official test scores, personal statement and two letters of recommendation.
The application is available online, but you can also contact the Office of Admissions at 217-581-2223, 877-581-BEIU(2348) or via e-mail.
