PART I: QUALITATIVE INFORMATION
- Assessment
- Active student learning opportunities:
- Students participate in pre-student teaching clinical experiences
during the major's methods class.
- Students prepare and present microteaching lessons in the methods class, as well as work collaboratively on other projects in the class.
- Strategies to improve P-16 teaching and learning
- Professional development for practicing educators,
including workshops, courses, conferences and degree programs: The Social
Science Studies Program each year co-sponsors the Annual History Teachers
Conference at EIU. Practicing educators (including program alumni) are asked
to participate as presenters at the conference.
- The Social Science Studies Program has initiated
the establishment of a network of social studies alumni in order
to increase linkages between the program and teachers working in area schools.
- Collaborative activities with business/industry:
None.
- Pass rates on any professional/ occupational
licensure exams: Pass rates on the Social Science Test of the Illinois
Certification Testing System are as follow:
FA 2002--September administration: 60 per cent, December administration: 85
per cent; SP 2003-- March administration: 100 per cent; SU 2002--June administration:
75 per cent, July administration: 100 percent.
- Faculty Achievements:
Chair of program is recipient of Dean's Award
for Service, School of Adult and Continuing Education, EIU; Chair as a member
of the Board of Trustees
of the Coles County Historical Society and as Chair of the Greenwood School which
is used for educational programs for area elementary children

- Student Achievements:
One recipient of the Errett and Mazie Warner Scholarship (SP 2003); One nominee
for the Livingston C. Lord Scholarship (SP 2003); One recipient of the
National Social Science Awards awarded by the United States Achievement Academy
(FA 2003).
