Collaborative activities with business/industry: Although the department has no collaborative activities with business/industry, in fall 2001 it implemented a partnership with the establishment of an on-campus field staff office of the Illinois office of the comptroller. Starting with spring 2002, this partnership has provided an internship opportunity each semester for a PLS undergraduate student (1 student in spring 2002; 1 student in summer 2002). Furthermore, the lease proceeds from this partnership have been used to support student activities such as model Illinois government.

  6. Faculty Achievements
  7. Student Achievements PLS student achievements in the previous academic year included a PLS student receiving eastern Illinois university's outstanding senior award; an undergraduate research award (for a departmental honors student); 2 college of sciences graduate student investigator awards; a second place award in the social sciences writing award competition; a PLS graduate receiving a legislative staff internship award with the Illinois general assembly; 6 PLS majors on the spring 2002 dean's list, and 8 on the fall 2001 dean's list; 1 PLS student receiving both the J.Y. Kelly award (pre-law) and the Warner-Brainard pre-legal presidential award; one student receiving the best budget analyst award at the annual model Illinois government simulation; three students receiving recognition at the annual model united nations (two best delegate awards; one honorable mention delegate award,; and a distinguished service award).
