   • Accreditation reports/results: The original Early Childhood Major was fully accredited by NCATE, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and NAEYC. The program was revised and a new Early Childhood Education Major with Track I and Track II are being implemented Fall, 2002, to meet new requirements in response to new standards that NCATE and IBHE have adopted and new needs as seen by school districts. The revised program will be assessed in the next accrediting cycle.
2. Active student learning opportunities: Students engage in practica experiences in a sequence of course work from Pre-K settings through primary grades. Active student learning opportunities are associated with faculty-student collaborations with service such as: Adopt-a-Student; ACEI Mini-courses and workshops such as Make and Take; RIF (Reading is Fundamental) sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi. In addition, PT3 grants provide opportunities for faculty, students, and PK-3 partner schools/centers to collaborate in active learning. Faculty also serve as Mystery Readers and participants in other reading activities in the public schools.

Strategies to improve P-16 teaching and learning: PT3 Grants - Technology Enhanced Teaching Projects in PK-3 Classrooms; Project Parent Power collaboration with local school districts and ROE #11 resulted in on-going three-year research project on Family and School Partnerships; Charleston Public Schools, Mattoon, Various Preschools are utilized for pre-service experiences but there are not formal partnerships established at this time.
4. Collaborative activities with business/industry: Work with ROE and Continuing Education to provide workshops and off-campus course offerings; also consultation for Head Start and various community preschool sites; Early Childhood Advisory Council - Assisted in the formation of the program and provide feedback to the program.

Faculty Achievements: In addition to items on the linked page, faculty in the department consistently receive excellent teaching evaluations, serve on many committees at various levels from the department to international professional organizations, and provide leadership in a variety of community organizations and events.
7. Student Achievements: Two scholarships are specifically for Early Childhood are awarded. These are the Lottie Leach Leeds;and the Mary K. Moore Scholarship. Twenty other scholarships are awarded each year and are not limited to Early Childhood.
