While the creation of a new degree program or unit of instruction requires the submission of a
new program request ,
certain programmatic revisions should be submitted to the IBHE staff in the
form of a Reasonable and Moderate Extension (RME).Use this stream-lined format if you
intend to seek approval for:
- Creation of a new, formally organized research or public service unit with a temporary mission of up to five years.
- Creation of a certificate program in a field or at a level in which there is not a previously approved degree program.
- Creation of a new program that results from the reorganization or an existing program.
- Reclassification (change of CIP code) of a program.
- Change in degree designation at the same level (i.e., BA to BFA).
The RME must include:
- A brief description of the action requested
- A thorough explanation of the need for and benefits of the action
- Details as to how the request is linked to university and statewide goals
- And if applicable, a detailed curricular chart showing the requirements of the new
option/minor/concentration
Prior to submitting an RME to the Office of Academic Affairs, be sure to seek approval from the
appropriate local governing bodies (i.e., college curriculum committee, CAA, COTE, CGS). Requests
for Reasonable and Moderate Extensions are reported to the Board of Trustees.
