IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Our subscription to Wikispaces ends on July 8, 2015.  Due to budget cuts we will be unable to renew our subscription to Wikispaces Private Label.  However, you will be able to continue your wiki on Wikispaces free site located at www.wikispaces.com

If you want to keep your current wiki by having it copied over to Wikispaces.com, you must complete the following steps.

  1. Go to http://www.wikispaces.com/space/create to create a new account and create a new wiki.
  2. Leave the new wiki empty.
  3. Contact Julie Lockett at jalockett@eiu.edu with the following information:
    1. The address of your current wiki on the eiu.edu/folios site.
    2. The address of the new blank wiki you just created on wikispaces.com.
  4. Your request will be sent to Wikispaces and they will copy the content from your current wiki to the new wiki. You will be notified when the content of the wiki has been copied.

Note 1:  A new wiki must be created for each wiki you want copied.  Wikis cannot be combined.

Note 2:  The copy will contain all of the page and file content.

Note 3:  Memberships to your wiki cannot be copied.  (Memberships are the groups of users who are members of a wiki.)  However, you can export a list of the members of your current wiki and use the “User Creator” tool to try and create those users in your new wiki.

Listed below are the differences between Wikispaces Private Label and the Wikispaces site:

  • The Wikispaces site is free.
  • You will no longer be able to authenticate using your EIU new ID and password.  (You will create a new, separate account at Wikispaces.com.)
  • The URL to your wiki will be different.

If you have any questions about transferring your wiki, contact me at jalockett@eiu.edu.  If you need assistance using Wikispaces, contact the COL Solution Center at 581-8452 or Kim Ervin at kservin@eiu.edu.
