Old Main

Built in 1899, Eastern's first structure -- the Administration Building (more affectionately known as Old Main) -- was later named the "Livingston C. Lord Administration Building" in honor of EIU's first president who served from 1899 to 1933. A plaque on the front of the three-story German Gothic-style building of brick and limestone construction reads, "If I had only eight words to leave with you they would be these, "Not who is right, but what is true." Lord voiced these words during his final chapel service on May 6, 1933.
